For VAT purposes, a long-term illness or disability is defined as a physical or mental impairment with a lasting and significant impact on everyday activities, a condition recognised as a chronic sickness by the medical profession (e.g. diabetes), or being terminally ill. Temporary disabilities, age-related limitations without substantial impairment, or temporary incapacitation do not qualify for VAT relief.

It's important to note that the purchase does not have to be made in person; if a parent, guardian, spouse, or partner buys goods and services on your behalf, VAT relief will be applied, provided the items are for personal or domestic use rather than for business purposes.
